Halloween

I don't like a lot of decorations around the house, its just more to dust. I don't like to decorate for holidays because that means I have to store the decorations for the other 11 months of the year. That being said I really enjoyed decorating for holidays with my mom. She didn't go really crazy but had a few decorations for each holiday and I loved it. Because my kids are getting older I asked them if they wanted to make some Halloween decorations and decorate the house. Josie was so excited she ran downstairs and brought back this piece of rainbow stationary. "Mom can I hang this up for my Halloween decoration"? Yep, sure can. That's when I realized I have a few more years before I really need to get serious about decorating, clearly they don't get the concept of Halloween and that is perfectly fine with me.
Josie asked me if she was going to dress up like Little Red Riding Hood again for Halloween. I told her to pick something else because she was that last year. She immediately asked if she could 'be a rainbow, like her decoration'. Instead I let her watch an episode of Rainbow Brite and we settled on that for a costume. I couldn't find any type of pattern but I found a couple pictures on the Internet, meshed them with the ideas in my mind, bought some material, some star buttons and ended up with this costume. I painted Rio's old snow boots and (before the paint started chipping) they were perfect. I really enjoyed making this costume and I learned A TON.
Seriously I feel like a could sew anything now.
Trig's costume was oddly the most expensive of all 3 but still only $12. Not including the $7 bat I had to buy. It really was the most important part, he wanted to be a 'Hit Ball'. Meaning, He wanted to be a baseball player but only because he knows they have bats and can hit things. I had to buy that bat special because it was covered in foam; I count it as a courtesy to all that came near my boy. I got his stuff at the DI, I altered the pants and jersey drastically. The mitt, helmet and cleats were just lucky DI finds. I painted the stirrups on his socks and now he asks everyday to wear the ones with paint.
Quincy's was an Indian, I loved it. Dean called her 'Commanchi Spirit' all night and it made me smile. I made her a cute little dress, Dean wouldn't let me make it fancy with ribbon and beads like I had intended. He said Indians are plain, which is probably true and was defiantly easier for me. My dad made her cute little moccasins and I just loved it.
We stopped to see Papa and then headed down to Grandma Great's party. We met at Grandma Sharon's and went Trick-or-Treating with a few of the cousins. Our little family called it quits after 10 houses but our kids didn't know any different. They were thrilled with their loot! We headed to the party, ate dinner, and visited.
Josie was a fairy for her preschool Halloween party. I was afraid if I sent her in her real costume the arms and big boots would get in her way. She didn't want to be anything besides Rainbow Brite (which made me super happy) but when we started looking through our dress up box she decided on this fairy princess. She was excited because another girl at school was a fairy too.
