Dean has made it a family tradition to cut down a fresh tree each year. So for the third year now we headed up the hill to find a tree.

Instead of making this sound like a fairytale I'm going to document it like it really happened. I HATE real Christmas trees, I think they look bad, make a mess, and die. Dean however thinks its not really Christmas without a real tree, he wins because I love him. So his year Dean tells me we will leave to get a tree at 4:00 . I gasped, I thought for sure I would get out of it this year, our baby is 4 months old and hates the car. No it's a family tradition; we all have to go, again he wins because I love him. (side note- Dean has a flat bed pick-up that just keeps running to ruin my life. To get out you have to roll down the window and open it from the outside, there is no interior lights and the radio doesn't work. It is so loud you can't carry on a conversation while moving. From some unknown crack freezing cold air blows in when you go to fast, but to my dismay the heater works great. I'm sure that each time he pulls out of the driveway the thing is going to break down. However its always running great when its time to get a tree.) We have a nice truck that would be comfortable, safe, and reliable but Dean wants to take the flat bed. I tell him no its not safe and it will break down and we will be cold and Josie will freeze and starve, yet again he wins. 4:00 comes around I hear Dean walk in the house; no lie, I spring from my bed (Josie and I took a little nap) and get really nervous. Dean was mad that I wasn't ready but didn't say a word he just helped me get Josie ready and we were on our way. We drove for 10 minutes and I noticed that Josie's car seat was loose, so I think well Dean didn't put the base in no big deal, then I notice the car seat wasn't even buckled in with the lap belt. So I bring it up with Dean, "Oh this truck doesn't have seat belts" he nonchalantly tells me. I could freak out but I knew I was on thin ice after not being ready on time and already not liking this family tradition so I just rolled my eyes. Anyway we found the tree, cut it down , took the pictures. We get back in the truck and Dean says we already came this far so lets keep going and I'll show you something. I get a little bothered but he kept going anyway. The road gets worse and it gets darker and I started complaining more but we are still going. Then the road gets worse, more ruts, more snow, a lot steeper and a lot darker. Now we are on a steep hill covered in snow straddling a gully the truck gets stuck and we start rolling backward. I was scared and I was going to swear at Dean. When I turned to yell at him he sweetly says. " Okay if you want we can go back I don't have to show it to you". He said it like he finally gave in, like he was being nice, not like we were rolling backwards and there was no way that we could have go any further. Dean backed out and turned around, meanwhile I take a picture of him and say nothing but I was sure we would all die. I don't even know what he was trying to show me but obviously we didn't make it there. We were almost back to the main road and Dean turned to me a said,"Just so you know I could have made it up that hill I was just going slow because I knew you were scared". Wow I love the male ego. I wanted to be mad at him but he is just too cute. Then he took us to town because I wanted a Carbon Monoxide Detector and some groceries. He bought us dinner and it turned out to be a great time. When all is said and done we had fun and a nice family night. Maybe it will be an okay tradition after all. I love my little family.

When we got home Dean brought the tree in for me. I begged him to put the lights on it for me. He said NO several times, he told me that he would do it but he knew I would just complain about it. I really didn't want to do it so I told him to go a good job and if he would do it I wouldn't say a word or change it.

This is what I got... I think he took complete advantage of me not being able to complain about his work. When we got it all decorated and in place I just stepped back and said, "This is possibly the saddest Christmas tree ever". Dean thinks I said that same thing last year but I'm convinced that we have topped it as the worst tree ever this year. Dean just thinks it has character, he is so positive.

Jerusalem dinner-

CJ is adorable, I wish we would have taken a picture of the whole family.

Jerusalem dinner-
Every year my mom has a really nice Jerusalem dinner. It has been a fun family tradition and I was excited to share it with my daughter. She is such a doll.

Growing up my dad had a wooden box outside our back door. We called it the boot box, it doubled as a bench and a place to put boots and shoes when we went in the house so they weren't laying in front of the door. It was really handy. So I told Dean I was going to get a boot box for our front porch. He kept asking me when we were going to get a boot box. He asked me over and over again. I asked my dad to help me make one he said no, I kept asking, he kept saying no. I kept asking, he complained (that meant he was coming around to the idea). One day Dean asked my dad to come up and help him ship cows, and my dad brought me this great boot box. I was thrilled, thanks Dad. I was really excited for Dean to see it, I knew he would be excited. When he got home he said, " It's just a box". I don't know what he was expecting, I told him it was a boot box, a box to put your boots in. He said well its still just a box. I had to doll it up a bit, its still just a box but at least its painted.
Just an Update-
I'm truly in love with this lady. She is so fun, she is still getting better and better. She is liking the car and life. We are still going to the Dr. often to see if we can find something to fatten her up but for now we are just enjoying life.

Wow that post must have taken a long time. The lights look bad, do you want me to fix them? He is hilarious and the entire story is SO funny. I wish I had seen more of you guys this weekend. It is a great tradition. Maybe you could change it to a dangerous ride & a fake christmas tree:) The boot box looks great.

I love the box! I especially love how you can get dad to do things.
I am sorry you hate your tree. Good Luck NOT fixing those lights, just looking at them makes me want to fix them.
Love, Em
(There are a lot of family memories that I 'hate' but that is what you do as a mom and a wife)
ah i heart you. it's the opposite in our little family, brandon always wants a fake tree, but i like the tradition of getting a tree together every year, even if it's just from lowes or something. i'm glad that you guys are feeling better, your mom said josie got sick too...i'm so sorry!
Wow what a great post! Well I think your tree night was funny and you tree, well it looked good in the head lights but it too looks funny, yet character it has.
